Laurie Stepto Memorial Trust
Laurie Stepto was an accountant by profession and joined the Glebe Rowing Club in 1947. He was Club Secretary from 1952 to 1956 and delegate to the NSW Rowing Association from 1948 to 1955. He was created a Life Member of the Glebe Club in 1965 to acknowledge his considerable contribution over 18 years. During the same period he was most successful in his accountancy profession and became a senior partner in the well known firm of Hungerfords.
He played a most important role in NSW rowing administration as Treasurer from 1955 to 1967, Deputy Chairman 1967 -70, Chairman 1970-77, and President 1978-86. He was Manager of the Australian Rowing Team to Canada in 1967 and was awarded a Medal in the Order of Australia OAM in 1979 for his significant contribution to rowing in NSW and Australia.
Laurence Edward Stepto passed away in Sydney in November 1986.
On the 24th. November 1987 the L.E Stepto Trust was established to acknowledge the contribution to rowing in New South Wales by Laurie Stepto. The purpose of the Trust is to receive donations and funds from other sources and to invest those funds and make distributions from time to time for the benefit of Rowing NSW. The Fund also receives income from fines imposed by Rowing NSW. The Fund is currently supporting New South Wales crews competing in State, National and International events.
The Trust also contributed $5,000 to the NSW Team competing in the National Championships. Donations to the trust can be made via the online shop or at any time by contacting Rowing NSW.
