2018 Rowing NSW Presentation Night

Congratulations to all the following recipients of the of awards and trophies at the 2018 Rowing NSW Presentation Night. The evening was held on Saturday16 June 2018 at the Four Season Hotel, Sydney. 

Oarsman of the Year award
World Champions in the Men's Coxless Four, Spencer Turrin (Sydney Rowing Club) and Jack Hargreaves (Sydney University Boat Club) took out the Oarsman of the Year award. 

Oarswoman of the Year
Rowena Meredith (Sydney University Boat Club), Silver Medallist in the Quad Scull at the World Under 23 Championships and A Finalist in the same boat at the World Championships, was the Oarswoman of the Year. 

President's Cup for Para Rowing
World Champion and World Best Time holder in the PR1 Men's Single Scull, Erik Horrie (Sydney Rowing Club) took out the President's Cup for Para Rowing. 

The Coxswain of the Year Award
The Coxswain of the Year award was won by the Australian Men's Eight and NSW Queens Cup crew member, Kendall Brodie (Sydney Rowing Club). 

Novice of the Year Award
Christopher Gray
(Macquarie University Rowing Club) took out the Novice of the Year Award, presented by Victor Walter, Rowing NSW Board Member (left).

Coach of the Year Award
On the back of a succesful season for UTS Rowing Club as well as ending a 20 year drought in the Penrith Cup, Tim McLaren was awarded Coach of the Year. 

The Schoolgirl Coach of the Year Award
The Schoolgirl Coach of the Year award was presented to Simon Pennington and Jeff Paterson, the two coaching the Pymble Ladies College first eight to wins at the State Championships, Schoolgirl Head of the River and the National Championship. 

The Schoolboy Coach of the Year Award
Michael Doyle, who coached St Ignatius College to their first win in 43 years of the first eight at the AAGPS Head of the River was the winner of the Schoolboy Coach of the Year award.

Volunteer of the Year Award
Julia Story
was the recipient of the Volunteer of the Year.

The Governor's Cup for Para Rowing
PLC Sydney Head of Rowing, Jenny Clarke was acknowledged for her 2 decade long involvement in promoting Para Rowing being awarded the Governor's Cup for Para Rowing.

L.E. Stepto Memorial Premiership Shield
Sydney Rowing Club
narrowly claimed the L.E. Stepto Memorial Premiership Shield, with Nigel Banks (left) of Bentleys NSW presenting the shield to Sydney Captain Simon Nola (right). 

Combined Under 19/Under 21 Shield
Sydney Rowing Club were convincing winners of the Combined Under 19/Under 21 Shield and also added the Kevyn Webb OAM Sprint Championship Point Score trophy to their cabinet.

Elite & Under 23 and Senior & Open Shields
For the first time in a decade, a club claimed the Men's and Women's Elite & Under 23 and Senior & Open Shields, with UTS Rowing Club sweeping the awards and keeping Tim McLaren and Andrew Blacks' hands full.  The last club to win all 4 in a season was Sydney University in 2007/2008. 

Edward Trickett Point Score Trophy
UTS also won the Edward Trickett point score trophy

NSW Honours Recipients Trophy
Sydney University Boat Club
won the NSW Honours Recipients Trophy (State Championships point score) for the 12th time in the past 14 years. 

Kevyn Webb Achiever of the Year Award
Sydney University Boat Club was also awarded the Kevyn Webb Achiever of the Year Award on the back of their point score win at the National Championships, 12 members making National Teams, wins in both Australian Boat Races and completion of the Thyne Reid Boathouse. Sydney University Boat Club Vice President Will Raven was on hand to collect the awards.

Combined Junior Shield and Central Districts Rowing Association Trophy
Hunter Valley Grammar School
capped off their successful season winning the Combined Junior Shield as well as the Central Districts Rowing Association Trophy.

Northern Rivers Rowing Association Trophy
For the 10th time in the past 13 years, Lower Clarence Amateur Rowing Club took out the Northern Rivers Rowing Association Trophy.

Para Rowing Shield​​​​​​​
Balmain Rowing Club
were successful in retaining the Para Rowing Shield, with Deanna Fekete presenting the award to Ruby Sutherland and Zarni Tun.

The Schoolgirl Shield​​​​​​​
Loreto Kirribilli
 completed a hat-trick of Schoolgirl Shield wins.

The Schoolboy Shield and NSW Schoolboy Head of the River point score
The Schoolboy Shield was retained by Newington College who also took out the NSW Schoolboy Head of the River point score.

Spencer Grace OAM Combined Masters Shield​​​​​​​
North Shore Rowing Club
retained the Spencer Grace OAM Combined Masters Shield, captain Chris Walsh collecting the shield from Rowing NSW Board Member Deanna Fekete.

Bohemia Crystal River Cup
For the 5th time in a row Leichhardt Rowing Club took out the Bohemia Crystal River Cup for the long-distance point score, with Leichhardt President Justin Milne collecting the award on behalf of the club.
