NSW Masters Championships Regatta Postponed.

Following Rowing NSW’s message to clubs on Wednesday 12 May regarding the NSW State Masters Championships we have been monitoring the water levels at the Nepean River in anticipation of hosting the 2021 NSW Masters Championships this weekend.

Unfortunately the river levels continue to hold at 1.77m, dropping from 1.83m last Wednesday. As previously communicated, to boat safely from Weir Reserve, the access point for the NSW Masters Championships the water is required to be at 1.3m.

Based on the performance of the river levels in the last week Rowing NSW does not believe that they will drop sufficiently in the next three days to allow us to safely run the regatta. Rowing NSW has therefore made the necessary yet unfortunate decision to postpone NSW Masters Championships Regatta from this weekend.

Rowing NSW has consulted with representatives from Masters clubs entered into the regatta regarding their preference to find an alternative date or cancel the regatta for 2021. The majority opinion received was to postpone the event rather than cancel it.

Based on this feedback Rowing NSW is working to identify an appropriate date and venue for the event in the near future whilst also working through a number of administrative challenges and availability issues. We are hopeful that Sydney International Regatta Centre will be available for the postponed regatta with Blue Green Algae levels reducing with each set of test results.

Once we have identified an appropriate course of action we will communicate to all clubs, allowing ample time for training and preparation.

Rowing NSW understands that this is not an ideal situation and that this new date will not suit everyone. It is important to note that there may be some events that won’t be able to go ahead due to a reduction in entries which is inevitable with the change of date. We will work with clubs to understand the best date to allow the most number of competitors to be present.

In light of these events all clubs will receive a full refund for regatta entries for this weekend’s regatta.

We thank you for your understanding and patience as we work through this challenging time.
