Published Tue 03 Oct 2017
At the conclusion of the World Championships at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Florida the Australian Rowing Team have come away with 6 medals from 10 Boat Classes. Of those 6 medals New South Wales Athletes have featured in 3 medal winning crews.
The results were as follows:
GOLD - PR1 Men’s Single Scull (formerly AS Men’s Single Scull)
Erik Horrie (NSWIS/Sydney RC/NSW)
Coach: Jason Baker (Sydney RC/NSW)
Heading into the regatta Erik Horrie was a three time world champion over 1000m. With the race distance being lengthened to 2000m for the first time the stage was set for a big challenge. However in true Erik Horrie fashion he took the challenge head on and did it better than all his competitors, in the process adding a 4th Gold Medal to his collection. A well deserved result for the countless hours Erik has dedicated to his sport. Congratulations Erik!
GOLD - Men’s Four
Jack Hargreaves (Reinhold Batschi Men’s NTC/Sydney University BC/NSW)
Spencer Turrin (Reinhold Batschi Men’s NTC/Sydney RC/NSW)

However a four from Australia hasn't produced a gold medal at a World Champs since 1991. Congratulations to Spencer Turrin, Jack Hargreaves and Crew for their incredibly dominant performance at this years World Champs and winning the first World Championship in 26 years in the men's four boat class.
