Boat Naming of the Melissa McCormack
Published Mon 27 Nov 2017
Rowing NSW are delighted to be able to announce that the Para Rowing Barge, purchased with a grant from the Office of Sport, will be Christened the Melissa McCormack at the Reindeer Regatta on Saturday 2 December 2017 during the lunch break.
Melissa was a long-time employee of Rowing NSW and as well as her role of Finance Officer she took it upon her self to become a champion of our Para Rowing community. It was through her efforts that Rowing NSW was able to obtain a grant to purchase the barge that will be named in her honour.
The rowing community owes Melissa a lot as it was her drive and enthusiasm that not only assisted with the acquisition of the barge but also was the forcer behind many of the camps and functions for our Para Rowers. We owe her our gratitude and to have the barged named after her is but a token of our appreciation for her efforts in this area.
The barge provides the Para Rowing community in the state with an exceptional platform to assist in the introduction to the sport and to get our athletes on to the water in a safe and secure environment. We believe that this barge will be the catalyst to both our high performance and participation athletes to engage with our sport at all levels.
Members of the Para Rowing Community will join with Melissa at a lunch follow the Christening of the barge at the lunch break on Saturday of the Reindeer Regatta.
