Henley Royal Regatta Day 3

Sydney Rowing Club continued with their winning ways on Day 3 of Henley Royal Regatta seeing off Royal Chester Rowing Club in the Thames Challenge Cup (Club Men’s Eight).  Footage here:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XoGl1k7VDpA Tonight they face Thames Rowing Club ‘B’ at 11pm (all times AEST).  A win could set up the possibility of Sydney facing off against Molesey Boat Club in a Semi Final on Saturday should both crews win through.  Molesey’s current Head Coach is Franz Imfeld who coached many of the athletes in the Sydney crew when he was at the club during the 2020-2021 season. 

Sydney’s Wargrave crew had a day off yesterday and will now meet London’s Vesta Rowing Club at 3am for a chance to make it through to the semi finals of the Women’s Club eight event.

The Abbotsford based club will also commence proceedings in Day 4 when their inaugural entry in the Town Challenge Cup (Open Women’s Fours) race at 6:30pm with Lauren Graham and Sarah Hawe on board.  The other crew members are from Commercial in QLD and ASR Nereus in the Netherlands.  They face Cambridge University & Leander Club.

Victoria Cup winner for NSW, Sophie Jerepetritis - now racing for The Australian National University Boat Club - was part of a great crew effort from her ANU & Huon Rowing Club crew as they knocked the University of California out of the Princess Grace (Open Women’s Quad Sculls). Matt Smith & Nick Mirow (Sydney University Boat Club) put in an admirable performance in the Silver Goblets (Open Men’s Pairs) going down to a combination from Princeton University.    The pair both turn 21 this year and will be all the better for the experience and you can view their race here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s23ezBdtVtg

Sydney University’s Georgia Miansarow had a tough race in the Princess Royal (Open Women’s Single Scull) against Ukrainian turned Azerbaijan athlete Diana Dymchenko who pushed ahead mid race and held off the lighter sculler to progress.  You can watch the strong performance from Miansarow here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-lLooa1IO8

The King's School take on London's St Paul's School in a quarter-final of the Princess Elizabeth (Junior Men's Eights).  St Paul's have won the event twice and been twice runners-up in the last 6 attempts.  This contest takes place at 12:05am.

David Bartholot of Sydney University Boat Club will have his first match race of the regatta against USA sculler, Ben Davison.  Bartholot’s race against the former Head of the Charles winner is at 12:20am

The bulk of the Australian Senior Rowing Team mark the start of their Henley campaigns tonight.  Lucy Coleman (Sydney University) continues her strong European tour with Anneka Reardon in the Stonor (Open Women’s Double Sculls) as they face Obukohwo & George from the UK at 7:20pm.  A crew made up entirely of Sydney University and Sydney Rowing Club athletes (Tara Rigney, Rowena Meredith, Harriet Hudson and Kate Rowan) will race the Princess Grace first round tonight (Open Women’s Quad Sculls) against Twickenham & Reading at 7:35pm.  Sydney University Boat Club’s Georgie Gleeson teams with Victorian Jean Mitchell in the Hambleden (Open Women’s Pairs) as they face Mirfin & Frampton of the USA at 12:50am. A rejigged Australian Women’s Eight takes on University of Washington at 2:50am, with the Australian crew containing UTS Haberfield members Emma Fessey and Georgie Rowe and Sydney University athletes Eleanor Price and coxswain Talia Barnet-Hepples.
