Manning River Rowing Club - Rebuild | Progress Update

Published Tue 08 Dec 2020

Manning River Rowing Club continues to make great progress with the rebuild of the clubhouse following the destructive storm that occurred at the 2019 Central Districts Rowing Association Championships which saw the roof blown off the building with parts strewn across the main street.

The $1.6 million project is funded from the insurance claim, a $600,000 NSW Government Grant, members funds and donations from the rowing community including the NSW Union of Rowers.

LOCAL EXPERTISE SHINES AS CLUB IS CREATED

Reconstruction of the $1.6 million Manning River Rowing Club has highlighted construction and engineering expertise available in the MidCoast area.

Nabiac-based Primmer Steel erected the first stage of the club’s external superstructure which will give the club its futuristic new look in the months ahead as it takes shape.

Six steel supports, which hold up the huge new curved roof overlooking a riverside terrace, were locked into place today. The club is being rebuilt following a freak storm on March 9 2019, which destroyed the top half of the club and smashed countless boats during a rowing regatta.

Business owner Mark Primmer was there to deliver and supervise the positioning of the roof supports alongside his apprentice Brodie Trotter. Mark has designed and fabricated the steel componentry for the building with vital input from local civil engineers Matrix Engineering, of Oxley Island.

Rowing Club Project Manager, Tony Beeton, is delighted that more than 85% of the building’s content and professional expertise has been supplied locally, leading to efficiencies and employment continuity in the civil sector.
