NSW Wrap Up | Youth & Senior Eights | 2019 Aon Sydney International Rowing Regatta

A big weekend and huge congratulations to all the New South Wales athletes and crews who competed at the 2019 Aon Sydney International Rowing Regatta. Day 7 saw 9 NSW athletes and crews podium finish in 10 events, including 5 gold medals and 4 silver medals.

Interstate Women's Youth Eight

The NSW girls captured the gold medal in the Interstate Women's Youth Eight, taking home the Bicentennial Cup for 2019. The crew was made up of Raquel Cuevas (Sydney University Boat Club), Isabelle Furrer (Sydney Rowing Club), Lauren Graham (Sydney Rowing Club), Nikki Martincic (UTS Rowing Club), Crystal Piper (Sydney Rowing Club), Tara Rigney (Sydney University Boat Club), Adelaide Scott (UTS Rowing Club), India Thomson (Sydney Rowing Club) and Coxswain Hannah Cowap (Sydney Rowing Club).

Interstate Men's Youth Eight

The NSW men also captured the gold medal in the Interstate Men’s Youth Eight, taking home the Noel F Wilkinson Cup for 2019. The crew was made up of Harry Crouch (Sydney Rowing Club), Jordan Duff (Sydney University Boat Club), Jackson Kench (Sydney Rowing Club), Alex Nichol (Sydney Rowing Club), Ashley Nicholls (Sydney Rowing Club), Torun Olsson (Sydney Rowing Club), William O’Shannessy (Sydney University Boat Club), Alex Potter (Sydney Rowing Club) and coxswain Harry Keenan (Sydney Rowing Club).

Interstate Women's Eight - Queen's Cup

The NSW girls beat of a fast finishing Victorian crew to take out the gold medal for NSW in the Interstate Women's Eight. Victoria were gunning for their 15th straight Queen’s Cup win. NSW has not won this event since 2004.

The crew was made up of Fiona Ewing (Sydney University Boat Club), Emma Fessey (UTS Rowing Club), Georgina Gotch (Sydney University Boat Club), Genevieve Horton (Sydney University Boat Club), Harriet Hudson (Sydney Rowing Club), Rowena Meredith (Sydney University Boat Club), Georgie Rowe (UTS Rowing Club), Leah Saunders (Sydney Rowing Club) and coxswain Talia Barnet-Hepples (Sydney University Boat Club).

Interstate Men's Eight - King's Cup

The NSW men took out their 3rd consecutive Interstate Men's Eight win, and 10th win of the last 12 appearances at this regatta. This was a more memorable victory for the men’s eight, being the centenary anniversary of the King’s Cup since the AIF won the Royal Henley Peace Regatta in 1919.  

The Crew was made up of Robert Black (Mosman Rowing Club), Jack Hargreaves (Sydney University Boat Club), Angus Moore (Sydney Rowing Club), Jack O’Brien (Sydney University Boat Club), Hamish Playfair (UTS Rowing Club), Alexander Purnell (Sydney University Boat Club), Nicholas Purnell (Sydney University Boat Club), Spencer Turrin (Sydney Rowing Club) and coxswain Kendall Brodie (Sydney Rowing Club).
