ALISON DAVIES

Alison started rowing in Adelaide in 1990 when she was selected as part of the South Australian Sports Institute Talent Identification Program. Within a few years of picking up an oar Alison won a World Junior Title and medalled at Senior World Rowing Championships. She went on to represent Australia at the Atlanta and Sydney Olympic Games in the Women’s Eight. Since retiring from rowing she has maintained strong links to the sport be it through coaching, billeting athletes and now as a rowing parent. She still occasionally gets on the water herself too. She is actively involved in the Olympic movement and is a Co-delegate of the Australian Olympians Association NSW.

Alison currently holds a management role at BreastScreen NSW Northern Sydney Central Coast and her professional experience in the health sector brings a valuable skill set in the areas of governance and risk.

Alison brings a contemporary and intergenerational perspective on rowing to the Board. She looks forward to working with the other members of the Board and supporting the management team to further develop and promote rowing throughout NSW so the entire community can share the benefits of this great sport.

STUART WELCH

Stuart has been a member of UTS Haberfield Rowing Club since 1996 and has represented Australia in U/23 and Senior Teams at Olympic and World Championship level. Stuart is a dual Olympic medallist, having won Silver in the Men’s Eight in Sydney 2000 and Bronze in the Men’s Eight in Athens 2004. In 2002, Stuart rowed for Cambridge in the world-renowned Oxford Cambridge Boat Race, and placed 4th in the 2003 World Championships in the Men’s Four. Stuart has remained actively involved in rowing since competing at an international level. He became a Life Member of UTS in 2019, acknowledging his significant contribution to the rowing club and its Board, over the past 10 years.

Stuart holds a Bachelor of Business (UTS), Master’s Degree in Business Administration & Management (Cambridge) and is a Chartered Financial Analyst. Stuart is a Portfolio Manager at Alphinity Investment Management, having previously worked at Fidelity International, Macquarie Group and KPMG.

Stuart’s deep understanding of the requirements of both elite-level rowing and community-based rowing; his extensive involvement in the management of the day-to-day operations of a large rowing club; coupled with his commercial acumen, make him a valued Board member of Rowing NSW.

We also thank outgoing director, Sarah Hill, for her contributions to the sport and wish her all the best for her future endeavours.
