Come and join the students from America, Australia, England, Ireland and South Africa row around the world. Having set off from Melbourne on 10th September, it’s not too late to join them to row 40,075,000 metres, the distance around the world.
Background
- SWIRC is open to schools who do not have an established rowing program.
- It is not a race. SWIRC is all about active participation, encouraging movement and use of the indoor rowing machine.
- Any age, gender and ability can be involved.
The organisations involved in engaging schools in SWIRC are:
- Australia - Rowing Australia
- England – London Youth Rowing and Row Leeds
- Ireland – Rowing Ireland
- South Africa - Eastern Cape Rowing Association
- USA – Community Rowing Inc., Boston
How to be involved
- There is no charge for participating.
- Each Friday a teacher or coach at each school sends the total metres covered by that school and number of students participating during the week to their Local Coordinator (LC).
- The LC will send a spreadsheet with the number of metres and students listed against each school involved that week to Ron Batt at Rowing Australia rbatt@rowingaustralia.com.au by each Monday.
- The new location is sent each week to the LC’s.
- The journey will be across land offering interesting learning opportunities to participants. For example, schools may wish to engage in some research about the history or geography of the weekly location.
- Schools are able to miss weeks, e.g. through holidays. Please advise your LC in advance.
- At the completion of the full distance all schools involved will receive a certificate of participation, listing the distance they contributed.
- Photos and social media posts will be shared along the journey.
- The next step is to confirm your involvement with whoever sent you these details.
SWIRC is open to schools who do not have an established rowing program. Please contact Ron Batt at Rowing Australia rbatt@rowingaustralia.com.au for more information.
Welcome to SWIRC!
